Shadow Sites
Statement
The title of this work comes from the book ‘Shadow Sites’ by Kitty Hauser in which she describes how aerial photographs revealed marks from ancient human earthworks that appeared only as crops grew. The Tolkienesque magic of this appealed to my imagination and love of story. In Shadow Sites I examine the ways in which the surface of the artwork can become a site, through scratches, stains, folds, and other marks that are invisible until revealed by light and the cyanotype process.
